Transport workers to get appointment letters

The workers, especially drivers and helpers, of road transports will get appointment letters from their owners.

The owners and workers of the road transport have reached consensus in this regard. 

A decision was taken at a parliamentary committee meeting on the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Tuesday after a lengthy dispute over the matter between the two sides.

The new law stipulates that it is mandatory for owners to give employment letters to ensure road safety. However, no penalty will be imposed if the owners do not give the appointment letter. This was one of the issues raised by the workers' objections to road transport laws.

The meeting was convened at the Parliament Bhaban to discuss on the function of the Transport Workers Welfare Fund Board.

Chairman of the committee, Mujibul Haque, chaired the meeting.

Osman Ali, General Secretary of Road Transport Workers Federation and Khandaker Enayet Ulah, Secretary General of Bangladesh Road Transport Association attended the meeting, among others.
