Chittagong 8 by-polls on Jan 13

The by-polls to Chittagong 8 constituency that fell vacant following death of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker Moinuddin Khan Badal will be held on January 13 next.

EC Secretary Md Alamgir announced the schedule on Sunday afternoon.

According to the schedule, the last date for submission of nomination is December 12, scrutinization on December 15 and the last date for nomination withdrawal is December 22.

The entire by-polls will be held from 9 am to 5 pm on January 13 using electronic voting machines (EVMs) instead of traditional ballot papers, he said.

On November 7 last, Badal, who was elected from the constituency in the 11th general election held on December 30, 2018, died at a Bangalore hospital in India.

The EC has a constitutional obligation to complete the by-polls within 90 days after the constituency fell vacant.
