Death toll from Keraniganj plastic factory fire 11

The death toll from the fire at a plastic factory in Keraniganj, on the outskirts Dhaka, has now risen to 11.

Eight of the injured died while undergoing treatment at a burn unit at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) hospital on Wednesday night.

The deceased were identified as Imran, Raihan, Bablu, Sujan, Alauddin, Khaled, Jinrul and Alamgir, said Burn Unit resident surgeon SM Ariful Islam.

He said a total of 31 people were admitted to the hospital and of them, eight died in the night. Later, two more burn injured died in the hospital on Thursday.

A fire broke out at a plastic factory located at Chunkutia area of Keraniganj caught fire at 4:30 pm on Wednesday.

One was killed and 20 others were injured in the fire, said Major Shahriar of RAB-10.

He said, "The fire originated from a gas cylinder. There were some 200-250 workers in the factory. Of them, one was killed and some 25 were injured in the fire incident."

However, the number of injured increased later.

The injured were admitted to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital, police said.

On receiving the news, 10 fire service units arrived at the scene and doused the blaze at around 5:45pm.
