Parents seek DU VC's explanation over attack on VP Nur

The guardians of students and civil society members have heavily criticised the Dhaka University vice chancellor for allegedly aligning to the controversial activities of the leaders, activists of ruling party's student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League on the campus.

They staged protest rally on the campus on Tuesday afternoon under the banner of 'concerned parents and civil society'. 

In the rally, they sought answers to their questions from the vice-chancellor in connection with the attack on Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) VP Nurul Haque Nur and his associates.

The banner was written asking, "VC, can you answer me? Do we not pay you? Why are our children insecure? "

Later, they met Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman at his office. Then they submitted a memorandum to the VC.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court has placed three Muktijuddho Mancha leaders on three-day remand each in a case involving attempted murder charges stemming from the attacks on Nur and his supporters.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Haque issued the order on Tuesday after they were placed before it seeking five days remand plea.

The three leaders, who were detained earlier, are Muktijuddha Mancha's General Secretary Al Mamun and its Dhaka University unit's General Secretary Yasin Arafat Turjo, the organisation's Office Secretary Mehedi Hasan Shanto.

Muktijuddho and Dhaka University Chhatra League activists allegedly attacked VP Nur and his followers around 12:45 pm on Sunday at his office. The computers, chairs and furniture of the VP's room were vandalized during the attack.

At least 24 people of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council (BGSRPC), including Nur, were injured in the incident. 

The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police have filed a case over the attack on Ducsu VP Nuhul Haque Nur and his supporters. The case was lodged with Shahbagh Police Station in the city on Monday night accusing some 35 people. Of them, eight accused were named in the case.
