Atiqul collect AL nomination forms for mayoral race

Incumbent Mayor M Atiqul Islam has collected Awami League nomination form for election to Dhaka North City Corporation.

Atiqul Islam's personal assistant Saifuddin Emon and younger brother Abu Mahmud Khan collected the nomination forms at 3 pm on Wednesday from the political office of the Awami League president at Dhanmondi in the city.

The Election Commission (EC) will hold elections to the Dhaka north and south city corporations on January 30 next year.

As per the schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination is December 31, while the date for scrutinising nomination papers is January 2 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 9.

The entire elections will be held using electronic voting machines (EVMs) instead of traditional ballot papers, said Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda while declaring the schedule for the elections at a press conference at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon  on Sunday.

He also added that the voting will be held from 8am to 4pm without any break.
