Sayeed Khokon cries seeking prayer for him

Incumbent Mayor Sayeed Khokon has collected Awami League nomination form for election to Dhaka South City Corporation.

Khokon collected the nomination forms at 12:45pm on Thursday from the political office of the Awami League president at Dhanmondi in the city.

While talking to reporters at the gate of the office, Sayeed Khokon was seen crying seeking prayer of Dhaka south inhabitants.

"I got into politics holding the hands of my father. My father is no more alive. In his absence, my guardian is my leader Sheikh Hasina. She will do whatever she feels is the best," said Khokon.

On Wednesday, lawmakers Fazle Nur Tapash and Haji Mohammad Selim bought nomination papers for Dhaka south city.

The Election Commission (EC) will hold elections to the Dhaka north and south city corporations on January 30 next year.

As per the schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination is December 31, while the date for scrutinising nomination papers is January 2 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 9.

The entire elections will be held using electronic voting machines (EVMs) instead of traditional ballot papers, said Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda while declaring the schedule for the elections at a press conference at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon  on Sunday.

He also added that the voting will be held from 8am to 4pm without any break.
