VP Nur now sued under Digital Security Act

DUCSU (Dhaka University Central Students' Union) Vice President Nurul Haque Nur has been sued under the Digital Security Act.

Apart from Nur, the general secretary of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad Rashed Khan and several others of the organisation have been charged in the case.

Arnab, publicity affairs secretary of Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall unit of Chhatra League, filed the lawsuit against Nur and his associates with Dhanmondi Police Station on Saturday last.

DMP Cyber Security and Crime Department Deputy Commissioner AKM Al Kinria told the Daily Samakal that the case was lodged against Nur and others for hurting religious sentiment through social media.

Earlier on December 26, DM Sabbir Hossain, former vice president of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall unit Chhatra League, filed an attempt to murder case against Nur and 28 other activists of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad.

On Sunday, Muktijuddho and Dhaka University Chhatra League activists allegedly attacked VP Nur and his followers around 12:45 pm at his office. The computers, chairs and furniture of the VP's room were vandalized during the attack.

At least 34 people of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council (BGSRPC), including Nur, were injured in the incident. The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Following the incident, police have filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station in the city on Monday night accusing some 35 people. Of them, eight accused were named in the case.
