Language Movement veteran Rawshan Ara Bachchu passes away

Rawshan Ara Bachchu, an activist of Language Movement of 1952, has passed away in a Dhaka hospital. She was 87.

The valiant woman breathed her last in the wee hours of Tuesday while undergoing treatment in the city's Apollo Hospital.

Rawshan was one of the pioneers who wanted to hold a peaceful procession defying a ban on rallies on February 21, 1952.

Her daughter Tahmida Bachchu said Rawshan was hospitalised for several days for her illness.

According to Bangla Academy sources, the body of Rawshan is set to be taken to the premises of Bangla Academy on Tuesday afternoon for people of all walks of life to pay their last respects to the Language Movement veteran.

Rawshan Ara will be laid to rest at a graveyard in her village Kulaura of Moulvibazar.

She was born on December 17 in 1932 in Moulvibazar. Rawshan graduated with an Honors' Degree in Philosophy in 1953 from the University of Dhaka and later completed MA Degree in History.
