Cinematographer Mahfuzur Rahman Khan dies

Veteran cinematographer Mahfuzur Rahman Khan has passed away at a hospital in Dhaka.

The ten-time National Film Award winner, breathed his last at United Hospital at around 12:26am, said a member of Bangladesh Chalatchitra Porichalak Samity.

He was admitted to Green Life Hospital Limited on November 25 as he fell sick.

Later, he was shifted to the city’s United Hospital and kept on life- support where he died in the wee hours of Friday.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Mahfuzur is scheduled to be held at Chawkbazar Shahi Jame Mosque situated in Old Dhaka this afternoon, Kabirul said.

Later, his body will be taken to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) following his family’s consent, he added.

Mahfuzur Rahman won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Cinematography a record nine times for the films Obhijan (1984), Sohojatri (1987), Poka Makorer Ghor Bosoti (1996), Shrabon Megher Din (1999), Dui Duari (2000), Hajar Bachhor Dhore (2005), Amar Ache Jol (2008), Ghetuputra Komola (2012) and Padma Patar Jol (2015).

He also directed and produced films as well as acted in a lead role in the films Jallader Darbar, Amar Janmabhumi, Dabi, Alo Chhaya and Cholo Ghor Badhi.
