MPs can do everything sans ask for votes: Tofail

Tofail Ahmed, Awami League’s chief coordinator of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election, said parliamentarians can do everything except seek votes for their party's candidates in the Dhaka two city polls.

He said this to journalists after discussion with the Election Commission on Saturday.

An Awami League delegation led by Tofail Ahmed held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and other election commissioners. 

After the meeting, Tofail told reporters that they had exposed various inconsistencies in the electoral rules to the EC. All Commissioners except Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar, have agreed on the issues.

He said parliamentarians would be able to hold meetings in the office or at home over the upcoming elections and in this case, there is no bar of the EC. 

However, the lawmakers cannot ask for votes; the EC has made it clear, he added.
