Textbook festival taking place across the country

A free textbook distribution festival is being held across the country for primary and secondary students. On the first day of the new year, free textbooks are being handed over to the students at all schools across the country since Wednesday morning.

The festival has been organized centrally at the playground of the University of Dhaka under the initiative of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. 

Thousands of students along with ministers, MPs, secretaries attended the book festival. 

Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has also joined the festival to encourage the students. 

Students from various educational institutions of the capital, including the area around Dhaka University, have come to take the new books.

Among others who are present at the textbook festival include State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain, president of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Mostafizur Rahman, Shirin Akhter, MP, Nazrul Islam, Primary and Mass Education Secretary Akram Al Hossain.

On the other hand, the main event of distribution of books for the high school students is being taking place at Adhar Chandra High School in Savar, Dhaka.

As many as 3,53,144,554 free textbooks are being distributed to more than 42 million primary and secondary levels students  across the country for the academic year 2020.

The government has printed these textbooks by maintaining proper standard for pre-primary, primary, secondary, Ebtedayee and SSC level students and all students will get textbooks for free on the first day of the New Year.

Bangladesh has set a rare example in the world through distribution of free textbooks among large number of students on the first day of January.

The initiative of free textbook distribution is a ‘milestone’ in the education sector as it encouraged students to continue their studies.

The present government started distributing free textbooks from 2010 academic year.
