Atiq, Taposh win DNCC, DSCC mayoral polls

The Awami League mayoral candidates have won both Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections on Saturday.

In DNCC, ruling party contestant Atiqul Islam bagged 447211 votes while his nearest rival Tabith Awal of BNP polled 264161 in 1318 centres out of total 1,318.

In DSCC, AL mayoral runner Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh got 424595 votes while BNP’s Ishraque Hossain polled 236512  in 1150  centres out of total 1,150.

The voting in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) began at 8am and ended at 4pm without any break.

Voters cast their votes through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) method to elect mayors and councilors to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

Around 50,000 members of law enforcement agencies were maintaining law and order. A total of 129 executive magistrates and 64 judicial magistrates were deployed in the two city corporations.
