Cluster system for varsity admission

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to hold examinations to admit students to public universities under a cluster system

The decision was taken at a meeting with the vice-chancellors of 33 universities at the UGC office in Agargaon in the city on Wednesday, UGC chairman Kazi Shahidullah told a press briefing after the meeting.

He said that in the next academic year, there will be admission test in four groups. These are - agriculture, science and technology, engineering, and general. There will be three tests in science, arts and business education under general group.

The UGC's decision came amid objections of five top universities, including Dhaka University and BUET. 

The cluster sysyem will be finalized in the second week of March, said the UGC chief.
