Electricity prices hiked

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised electricity prices at both wholesale and retail (customer) levels.

The retail power tariff has been increased from Tk 6.77 to Tk 7.13 per kilowatt-hour unit and Tk 4.77 to Tk 5.17 at wholesale level.

The new tariff will come into effect on March 1, said BERC Chairman Monowar Islam.

He made announcement of the decision at his office on Thursday afternoon.

Among others present on the occasion were commission members Maqbool Elahi Chowdhury, Rahman Murshed, Mohammad Abu Farooq, Mohammad Bazlur Rahman.
