Mohammed Nasim no more

Awami League presidium member and 14-party spokesman Mohammed Nasim MP has passed away on Saturday morning. He was 72.

The former health minister breathed his last at 11am at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital's Shyamoli, said Nasim’s son, also a former AL lawmaker, Tanvir Shakil Joy.

On June 1, Nasim was admitted to the Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital's Shyamoli as he was feeling unwell. Later, he tested positive for coronavirus. 

Being suffered from a stroke, Nasim has been in a "deep coma" since June 5.

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief over the death of the veteran AL leader.

Nasim was born on April 2 in 1948 in Sirajganj District to Muhammad Mansur Ali and Amena Monsur. Mansur Ali served as the 3rd Prime Minister of Bangladesh in 1975 and was one of the four leaders killed in the Dhaka Central Jail as a part of the coup d'état on November 7 in 1975. 

Nasim was appointed as Public Works, Post and Telecommunications Minister in June 1996. He also took over the charge of home ministry.

The AL leader was elected to the parliament from Sirajganj-1 in 2014 and he was appointed as the minister of Health and Family Affairs.

Mohammed Nasim, son of Captain M Mansur Ali, one of the four martyred national leaders who was assassinated in prison after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, was the MP of Sirajganj-1 constituency. In the previous term of the Awami League government, he served as the Health and Family Welfare Minister.
