Case filed against six over Buriganga launch capsize

Naval police have filed a case over the launch capsize in the river Buriganga, bringing charges against six people, including the owner of the launch Mayuri-2.

Dhaka Region Superintendent of Naval Police Khandaker Faridul Islam told The Daily Samakal that efforts were being made to arrest the owner and driver of the Mayur-2 launch and other accused. 

The names of 6 people have been mentioned in the case. They are Mufazzal Hamid, owner of the launch Mayuri-2, master Abul Bashar, master Zakir Hossain, master shakil, master Sukani Nasir and driver Shipon Hawlader.

Meanwhile, the former driver of Mayur-2 launch said that there is no driver of the launch at present. It was being driven by the master.

The Dhaka-bound ‘MV Morning Bird’ launch from Munshiganj sank at 9:33am in the river after being hit by another launch ‘Mayur-2’ near Shyambazar in the capital’s old town.

The death toll from the launch-capsize climbed to 32 until the evening.
