Rescue efforts underway in Buriganga launch capsize

The rescue operation is going on for the second consecutive day in the incident of launch sinking with more than 50 passengers in Dhaka's Buriganga river.

Kamrul Hasan, a duty officer in the Fire Service Control Room, said that the divers resumed their search at 9:30 am on Tuesday after taking an hour-long break following an overnight search on Monday.

Navy, the Coast Guard, Naval Police and BIWTA personnel have also joined fire service divers in the rescue efforts.

The Dhaka-bound ‘MV Morning Bird’ launch from Munshiganj sank at 9:33am in the river after being hit by another launch ‘Mayur-2’ near Shyambazar in the capital’s old town.

The death toll from the launch-capsize climbed to 32 until Monday evening.
