3,114 new cases, 42 more deaths in Bangladesh

The health authorities have detected 3,114 new cases in a span of 24 hours in Bangladesh, raising the total cases to 1,56, 391.

Forty-two more patients died from the disease, totaling the death toll to 1968.

Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin on Friday.

Besides, 1606 more people made recovery during the same period.

She said 14,650 samples were tested in different laboratories across the country. 

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The number of cases has spiked in recent weeks.

With the sharp rise in infections in many countries, the global coronavirus cases have soared to 10,836,500 on Friday morning, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
