9 sued for rape in MC College dormitory

A case has been filed against nine people involved in the incident of gang rape of a young woman in the MC College dormitory in Sylhet.

The case was registered by the victim's husband with Shahparan Police Station on Friday night, said Officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station Abdul Qaiyum.

In the case statement, six people were named and three others were unnamed as associates.

The accused in this shocking incident are - MC College BCL leader M Saifur Rahman, Shah Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Rony, a master's student of English department, Tareq Ahmed, Arjun Laskar, Rabiul Islam and Mahfuzur Rahman Mashum. Although the accused Tareq and Rabiul are outsiders, the other four are students of MC College.

According to locals, the victim along with her husband went to visit MC College on Friday afternoon.

The rapists violated the woman after tying up her husband in a room of the hostel, said the victim’s husband.

On information, police rescued the couple from the hostel.
