Capital punishment for rape to be proposed in the cabinet: Law Minister

The government has taken steps to amend the law to increase the punishment for rape to death penalty from life imprisonment. 

Law Minister Anisul Haque told The Daily Samakal that the proposal in this regard would be placed at the cabinet meeting on October 12.

He said on Thursday afternoon that the proposal is being made following the instructions of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It will be proposed to amend the existing law with the provision of death penalty for rapists.
