Accused in Jubo League leader murder hacked to death on temple premises

A young man named Subrata Das Samrat, 27, has been hacked to death by miscreants on the premises of Durga Temple in Bogra. 

The incident took place at around 1am on Monday on the premises of Sadar's Subgram Hat Durga Mandir. The victim was accused in the 2015 murder case of Jubo League leader Moniruzzaman Manik, police said.

The deceased, son of Kalipada Das of Palgram, was a member of the Subgram Union Jubo League, locals said. However, Bogra District Jubo League president Shubhashish Poddar Liton has denied the matter.

According to the locals, Samrat went to the temple around 1 am on Monday. As soon as he came out after seeing the idol, the miscreants started chopping him with sharp weapons on the temple premises. In self-defense, he took shelter in a tin-shade house in the temple courtyard but the miscreants dragged him out and hacked him to death.

It is learned that there are several cases including murder against Samrat. Recently, there was a dispute between Samrat and his opponents over the sand business in the area. Three months ago, the people of his rival group staged a human chain in the Subgram area against him. From then, Samrat left the area and used to live in Bogra city. Samrat's elder brother Jewel Das alias Hari Jewel is a listed terrorist by the police.
