Construction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge begins on Nov 29

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan has said that the foundation stone of dual gauge 'Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge' is being laid on the Jamuna River next to Bangabandhu Bridge. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction work of the project on November 29 through video conference, he said at a preparatory meeting at the conference room of Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner's Office on Sunday morning.

The minister said if it was launched as part of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's far-reaching plan, two trains would be able to run side by side on the bridge at a speed of at least 100 kmph. 

It will be possible to transport all types of goods including containers quickly by rail and there will be no embarrassment or obstruction in transportation, he said, adding if implemented, it would be a milestone in communication with other countries, including China, Myanmar, India, Bhutan and Nepal.
