Mamunul-Faizul's statement inspired madrasa students to vandalize sculpture: Police

Police said that after hearing the statements of Maulana Mamunul Haque, the joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, and Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, the senior naib-e-amir of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh, two madrasa students vandalized the sculpture of Bangabandhu.

Khulna Range DIG Dr Khandaker Mohid Uddin gave this information at a press conference on Sunday afternoon at the office of Kushtia Superintendent of Police. Additional DIG KM Nahidul Islam, Kushtia Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafat and other senior police officials were present at the time.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the vandalism of a under-construction sculpture of Bangabandhu in Kushtia. Among them two are madrasa teachers - Al Amin and Yusuf Ali and two are madrasa students - Abu Bakkar Mithan, 19, Sabuj Islam Nahid, 20.
