Abdul Quader Mirza wins by a big margin

Awami League mayoral candidate Abdul Quader Mirza has won the Noakhali Basurhat municipality election by a huge margin.

He got 10,736 votes while his nearest rival BNP candidate Kamal Uddin Chowdhury bagged 1,778 votes and independent candidate Maulana Mosharraf Hossain managed to get 1,451 votes.

Voting was held on Saturday beginning from 8am to 4pm with 66 percent turnout. No irregularities were reported anywhere.

Earlier, Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Khorshed Alam told reporters during a visit to the polling station that the voting was taking place peacefully and fairly.

After receiving the election results, Abdul Quader Mirza said, “This victory is the victory of Bangabandhu, this victory is the victory of Sheikh Hasina, this victory is the victory of Obaidul Quader, this victory is the victory of Basurhat citizens. I dedicated this victory to every leader and worker of my party. I am grateful to the people of Basurhat irrespective of their opinion.”
