Imtiar Shamim, among 10, gets Bangla Academy Award

The 2020 Bangla Academy Literary Award has been announced at a press conference on Monday.

Director General of the Bangla Academy Habibullah Siraji announced the names of 10 award-winning poets and writers.

The recipients are: Muhammad Samad in Poetry, Imtiar Shamim in Fiction, Begum Akhtar Kamal in Essay / Research, Suresh Ranjan Basak in Translation, Rabiul Alam in Drama, Anjir Liton in Children's Literature, Shahida Begum in Liberation War-Based Research, Aparesh Bandapadya in Science / Science Fiction, Ferdousi Majumdar in Travel Story, Muhammad Habibullah Pathan in Folklore Literature.

Speaking at the press conference, Habibullah Siraji said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would hand over the prizes to the winners at the inaugural function of the book fair, either in person or virtually. The prize money is three lakh taka.

Secretary of the Academy AHM Lokman and poet Piyas Mazid, among others, were present at the press conference.
