CCC election clash leaves one dead

A man has been shot dead in a clash between supporters of two ward councilor candidates contesting the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections.

The incident took place in Jhautala area of Pahartali ward No. 13 of the city around 10 am on Wednesday.

Victim, Md Alam, 26, is the son of Sultan Ahmed of Burichang area of Comilla.

It is learned that around 10 am, a chase and counter clash incident took place between the supporters of Awami League-backed councilor candidate Wasim Uddin and rebel candidate Mahmudur Rahman in Pahartali ward. At one stage of the clash, Alam was shot dead on the spot.

Khulshi police inspector (investigation) Aftab Hossain confirmed the death to The Daily Samakal.

The CCC election began at 8 am on Wednesday and will continue till 4 pm.
