Voting in 63 municipalities ends amid sporadic clashes, boycotts

Voting for the third phase of 63 municipal elections has been held in the country with sporadic clashes, boycotts. 

Polling began at 8 am on Saturday and continued till 4 pm without any break. The counting of votes is going on now. Voting ended smoothly and peacefully in many municipalities but there have also been clashes, and boycotts in some municipalities.

Clashes in Katiadi, shootings in Ramganj, beatings of candidates in Dhunot and Feni and vote rigging in Gauripur have been reported. Besides, BNP and independent candidates in several municipalities including Singra, Darshana, Katiadi, Kalaroa and Sarishabari have boycotted the polls alleging irregularities.

Two journalists have been injured in an attack by miscreants while performing their professional duties in Mymensingh's Gauripur municipality election.

They are- NTV's camera person Masud Rana and Ekattar Television's camera person Md Nuruzzaman. NTV's camera has been vandalized. The injured Masud Rana has been admitted to the local Upazila Health Complex.
