HC bans publishing pictures of rape victims in the media

The High Court has banned the publication of all kinds of pictures and identities of living or dead women victims of sexual abuse and rape in the media. 

The High Court bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice SM Moniruzzaman passed the order on Monday.

At the same time, the court issued a rule to the concerned persons asking why the inaction of the defendants in banning the disclosure of pictures and identities of the raped women would not be declared illegal.

Barrister Mahfuzur Rahman Milon appeared for the writ petition while Deputy Attorney General Samarendra Nath Biswas represented the state.

On January 19, Barrister Mahfuzur Rahman Milon filed a writ petition in the High Court on behalf of the Justice Watch Foundation, a human rights organization, seeking a ban on the publication of pictures and identities of living or dead women victims of rape.
