2 killed, dozens burnt in Daudkandi bus fire

Two people have been burnt to death and at least 25 others injured in a fire on a moving bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Comilla's Daudkandi upazila. 

The incident took place on a Matlab Express bus from Dhaka at Gauripur bus stand of the upazila around 6pm on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Rafiqul Islam, 65, and Shatil, 5, whom thought to be members of the same family, said Daudkandi Highway Police Additional Superintendent of Police Mollah Shaheen.

The death toll could rise further as dome of the injured are in critical condition, said Saiful Islam, in-charge inspector of the Gauripur police investigation center at 7:30 pm.

ASP Shaheen said the fire was believed to have started from the gas cylinder of the bus. 

Nine injured passengers were sent to Dhaka while the two to Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex. Besides, first aid was given to six people.

Resident Medical Officer of Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex Mohammad Jamal Uddin said the condition of the injured was critical.
