Markets, shops to be kept closed on March 17

On the occasion of Bangabandhu's Birth Centenary, the Bangladesh Shop Owners' Association has announced to close all markets and shops across the country on March 17. 

The shop owners' association took the decision at a meeting on Saturday, said a press release issued by president of the organization Helal Uddin and Secretary General Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan on Sunday.

In a press release, the organization said markets and shops across the country would be closed on March 17 to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 

At the same time shop owners have been requested to illuminate the markets, it said.

Helal Uddin, president of the shop owners' association, told The Daily Samakal that all shops would be closed. However, shops for daily necessities, raw materials and drug stores will remain open.
