6 cases filed over Hefajat mayhem in Narayanganj

Six cases have been filed with Sidhdhirganj Police Station on Monday night in connection with clashes between law enforcers and Hefajat-e-Islam activists in Narayanganj during Sunday's countrywide hartal enforced by the Islamist group.

Some 25-30 people were named and 400-500 other unnamed persons were made accused in each of the six cases, said Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station on Tuesday

Of the six cases, police filed five cases while another was filed by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) with the same police station, he added.

The cases were lodged citing different allegations, including attacking the on-duty law enforcers in an attempt to kill them, obstructing government work, setting vehicles on fire after vandalising them, loss of life and property of general people and damaging government properties.
