Passenger trains may be closed during lockdown

Passenger train services across the country could be suspended from Monday due to an alarming rise in coronavirus infections. 

However, emergency food and freight trains will run at this time as usual.

Several media outlets have mentioned that such an announcement will come after the notification on lockdown was issued by the public administration on Saturday evening.

However, an official in charge of the railway ministry told Daily Samakal that no decision has been taken yet. The decision will be announced in the evening.

Earlier, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the government had decided to lock down the country for a week from Monday in the current situation of Coronavirus. He made the remarks at a press briefing from his official residence on Saturday morning.
