98 more Covid 19 deaths, 4,014 new infections

Eighty three more people died of Covid-19 in 24 hours until Saturday morning, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a handout on Saturday.

The virus also infected 4,014 others during the period, it added.

The death toll from the pandemic rose to 10,952.

It said 13.11 percent of the 20,571 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive while the infection rate was only 2.30 percent just on February 8 this year as during the late winter season, the rate started decreasing sharply.

The samples were tested at 350 authorized medical laboratories across the country during the time as the government put in efforts to increase the number of testing centers gradually with resurgence of the pandemic.

The recovery count rose to 6,53,151 after another 5,477 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 87.98 percent recovered, while 1.48 percent died.
