Bashundhara MD banned from leaving country

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir, in connection with a case filed over the recovery of a young woman's body from a flat in the capital's Gulshan,.

Confirming the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Zafar Hossain said the police on Tuesday applied to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court seeking a ban on Sayem Sobhan's travel abroad. 

Earlier on Monday night, police recovered the body of a young woman named Mosarat Jahan Munia from flat No. 19 on Road 120, Gulshan-2 in the capital. Later that night, the girl's elder sister Nusrat Jahan filed a case with the Gulshan police station.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station Abul Hasan said Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir has been accused in the case for allegedly abetting to commit suicide.

After retrieving the body at night, the OC said, “Initially, the girl is believed to have committed suicide by hanging herself. However, the matter cannot be confirmed before getting the autopsy report.”
