Eid holidays begin on Thursday

Public Administration Secretary Sheikh Yusuf Harun said the government offices would remain open on Wednesday as per the holiday calendar.

The government is following the list of official holidays considering 30 days of Ramadan under special circumstances.

This time, according to the official calendar, Eid holidays are scheduled for May 13, 14 and 15 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).

Depending on the sighting of the moon, Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims, will be celebrated on May 13 or 14. 

In other words, if the fast is for 29 days, then the next two days of Eid are holidays, although those two days are Friday and Saturday.

And if the fast is for 30 days, then two days are off – one day before and another day after Eid. 

In a word, Eid holidays are scheduled for three days whether Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on May 13 or 14.
