Reopening of educational institutions to depend on Corona situation: Education Minister

Education Minister Dipu Moni said the government won’t reopen educational institutions if the corona infections come under control as it will not be wise to take risk to the health of the country's citizens and students.

"No matter what date we set for the reopening of the educational institution, we will not take any risk to the health of the people if the situation does not improve," she said at a memorial meeting of Abdul Matin Khasru at the National Press Club's Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall on Saturday. 

Dipu Moni said, “The health of students, teachers and parents is of very much important to us. Seriously, we have closed the educational institutions for more than a year and two months. But the national educational program is not closed. Teaching is going on online. The quality and scope of online teaching is increasing day by day and not only Bangladesh but the entire world is getting used to it. ”

Moni said experts opined that educational institutions should not be resumed unless the infection rate falls below 5 per cent. 

Due to the Eid journey, the infection rate is going up again, she mentioned.

Earlier, the government had set to reopen the educational institutions on June 13.

Nagorik Samaj (Civil Society) President Sohrab Khan presided over the commemoration meeting while former Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, a member of the presidium of Bangladesh Awami League, former Food Minister Kamrul Islam, President of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin and others spoke as special guests.
