63 fatalities, 3,840 new COVID-19 cases

Bangladesh has registered 63 fatalities and 3,840 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

The Covid death toll rose to 13,345 and the tally of infections surged to 841,087, according to the latest government data released on Thursday.

Another 2,714 people recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 776,466.

It said 15.44 percent of the 24,871 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive while the infection rate was only 2.30 percent just on February 8 this year as during the late winter season, the rate started decreasing sharply.

The samples were tested at 528 authorized medical laboratories across the country during the time as the government put in efforts to increase the number of testing centers gradually with resurgence of the pandemic.

The recovery count rose to 7,76,466 after another 2,714 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 92.32 percent recovered, while 1.59 percent died.

It said 20 out of the 63 people died in Khulna division alone and 45 of them were male while 18 were female and added that one is in his 20s, two are between 11 and 20 years, seven in their 30s, seven in their 40s, 15 in their 50s and 31 are above 60 years.

Bangladesh recorded the highest number of COVID-19 fatality on April 19 this year when the virus killed 112 people in a day.
