One held with foreign currencies at Shahjalal Airport

Armed Police Battalion (APBN) has arrested a person with foreign currencies tantamount to Tk 2.5 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.

Ziaul Haque Palash, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of APBN identified the arrestee as Jahangir Gazi who was apprehended from a Turkish Airlines flight early on Monday morning.

The police official said APBN personnel searched Gazi’s body after he denied having foreign currency with him, and seized eight foreign coins hidden in his shirt along with Saudi riyals worth Tk 11.65 lakh.

He also possessed currencies of US, Malaysia, Europe, Oman, Kuwait, Thailand and Dubai.

The official said that legal action would be taken against him under customs law.
