Bangladesh discovers 28th gas field

The 28th gas field of the country has been unearthed in Zakiganj of Sylhet.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said this on Monday.

He said Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (Bapex) has discovered the 27th gas field in the country at Zakiganj in Sylhet.

Extractable reserves will be 50 billion cubic feet and 10 million will be added to the grid daily. It is possible to extract gas worth of Tk 1,276 crore in ten to twelve years.

Bapex started digging wells here on March 1. On May 7, the excavation of the well was completed. On June 15, the state-owned company was able to ignite the DST (drill steam test) gas flame.
