HC stays BFUJ polls for two months

The High Court has stayed the election to the Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union (BFUJ), which was scheduled to be held on October 23, for two months.

The HC bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order on Tuesday following a writ petition.

Mohammad Hasan Ferdous -- former general secretary of Chattogram Union of Journalists – filed the petition as his name was dropped from the voter list. 

The HC bench also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why their inaction to amend the BFUJ voter list should not be declared illegal.

Barristers Tirtha Salil Pal and Nurul Karim appeared for the writ petitioner petitioner during the hearing while Assistant Attorney General Ashiq Rubayet appeared for the state.
