Schedule of second phase of UP elections announced

The second phase of the Union Parishad in the country is scheduled for November 11.

In this phase, 848 union council elections will be held, EC Secretary Md Humayun Kabir Khandaker made this announcement after the 86th meeting of the commission at the election building on Wednesday.

According to the announced schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers for the second phase of UP elections is October 17. Besides, nomination papers will be selected on October 20, candidature will be withdrawn on October 26 and symbol allotment will be done on October 27.

Out of the 848 UPs in the second phase Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in 20, the EC secretary said.

It is learned that the decision for the third phase of UP elections may be taken next week.

Besides, the date of Sirajganj-6 constituency, which was declared vacant by the National Assembly, was set to be held on November 2.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and other officials including other commissioners were present at the meeting.
