Bashundhara MD, chairman sued over rape, murder

Nusrat Jahan Tania, elder sister of the victim Munia, filed the case against Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sohan Anvir, Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Shah Alam and six others over the rape and murder of a college student in Dhaka's Gulshan area in April this year.

The case was lodged with the Eighth Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children's Repression of Dhaka.

The six other accused are: Shah Alam's wife Afroza Begum; Anvir's wife Sabrina Sayem; Faria Mahbub Piyasha; Saifa Rahman Mim; landlord of the flat where the victim was staying Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon and his wife Sharmim Akhter.

After the hearing, Judge Mafroza Parvin recorded the statement of the complainant, took cognisance of the charges.

The court also directed Police Bureau of Investigation to submit a report on it within seven working days.

According to the case statement, Anvir has been made accused for allegedly murdering the victim after rape while Shah Alam and six others on charges of assisting Anvir.

On April 26, the body of the 21-year-old college student was recovered from her flat in Gulshan.

On July 19, Abul Hasan submitted the probe report to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court,  seeking appeal to it to relieve Anvir of the charges of abetting suicide.
