Not revenge, UP elections will be competitive: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said the Union Parishad elections will be competitive and there is no room for revenge. 

All candidates will enjoy equal opportunity in the election, he said.

He said this while addressing a meeting on law and order at the conference room of Magura Deputy Commissioner at 11:30 am on Thursday.

The CEC said it was "deeply saddened" that four people were killed in a clash between supporters of two members of the Jagdal Union in Magura Sadar over the October 15 elections.

The CEC called upon the people involved in the election, including the administration, to conduct the election peacefully and ensure that such incidents do not happen again. 

At the same time, he urged the administration not to accuse any innocent person in the incident.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ashraful Alam.

Additional Divisional Commissioner Abdur Rashid, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Civil Surgeon Shahidullah Dewan, District Election Officer Oliul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, RAB, Police, Ansar, journalists and other departmental officers and workers were present in the meeting.
