Court frames charges against photojournalist Kajol in 3 DSA cases

A Dhaka tribunal has framed charges against photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol in three cases filed under the Digital Security Act.

Judge Mohammad Ash Sams Joglul Hossain of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal passed order in this regard on Monday.

Earlier in the day, the judge rejected three separate petitions submitted for discharging Kajol from the cases.

The tribunal also set January 2 for starting the trial.

Journalist Kajol was present in the court during the hearing. Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua heard the plea for his release while Nazrul Islam Shamim from the state side stood for filing a charge sheet.

Three separate cases were filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Hazaribagh and Kamrangirchar police stations under the DSA on March 9, 10 and 11 last year by Awami League lawmaker (Magura-1) Saifuzzaman Shikhor, Jubo Mahila League's central committee members Usmin Ara Bally and Sumaiya Chowdhury Bonya respectively.

Kajol was charged with circulating indecent, defamatory, objectionable, and fake information about Jubo Mohila League leader Papiya on social media.

On December 25, the photojournalist walked out of jail on bail.
