Decline in world fuel prices to be reflected in country: State Minister

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said that with the reduction in the price of fuel oil in the world market, it will be reflected in Bangladesh as well.

He said this while exchanging views with journalists on Saturday.

The state minister said the government has re-fixed the prices of diesel and kerosene on November 4 in the wider national interest considering the overall context.

However, the price of diesel in Bangladesh is still lower than other neighbouring countries.

He said the price of diesel in Kolkata on Saturday was Rs 89.79 or Tk104 per liter.

The amount of cargo trucks entering Bangladesh through 26 land ports every day is also a matter of consideration. There is a danger of trafficking of fuel.

"We have to move towards electric vehicles," he said, adding, “In particular, if public transport can be made electric, eco-friendly vehicles will be ensured in the country.”

The engine efficiency of electric vehicles is more efficient and affordable and it will also reduce the cost of oil imports.

He said the price of fuel oil was reduced in after increasing its price.
