DIG Prisons Perth Gopal sentenced to 8 years in prison

A court has sentenced Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (DIG Prisons) Perth Gopal Banik to eight years in prisonin in a corruption charges.

At the same time a fine of Tk50,000 has been imposed.

Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka's Special Judge's Court No. 4 handed down the verdict in a bribery and money laundering case on Sunday.

Earlier, after hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court on December 27 fixed January 9 for the verdict of the case.

Perth Gopal was the DIG (Prisons) of Sylhet Central Jail. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case after recovering Tk 80 lakh from his house in 2019.
