Letter sent to the United States to lift ban on RAB: Momen

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has written to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to lift the ban on seven former and current high officers of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Momen wrote a letter to Anthony wishing him a Happy New Year. 

In the letter, he expressed hope for strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told The Daily Samakal on Sunday that he was hopeful of strengthening bilateral relations in the future, adding that the role of RAB in counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics activities was mentioned in the letter.

The United States imposed sanctions on seven former and current RAB officials on December 10 last year for serious human rights abuses. The ban was imposed separately on International Human Rights Day by the US Treasury Department and the State Department.
