Ivy, councillors take the oath of office

Dr Selina Hayat Ivy, the newly elected Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), and 36 councillors, including nine reserved seat councillors, were sworn in on Wednesday.

The swearing-in event was held at The Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city. Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, attended from her official residence at Ganobhaban.

Mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy was sworn in digitally by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, while LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam delivered oaths in person to 27 councillors and nine reserved seat councillors.

While speaking to the audience, she stated that the recent NCC elections established an example of peaceful voting.

Selina Hayat Ivy, an Awami League candidate, was elected mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation for the third time in a row on January 16.

She received 66,535 votes more than her closest competitor, Taimur Alam Khondker.

Ivy, who ran under the symbol "Boat," won the election with 159,097 votes, defeating independent candidate Taimur Alam, who received 92,166 votes under the sign "Elephant."
