Former Bangladesh High Commissioner arrested in Malaysia

Malaysian Immigration police have arrested former Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia M Khairuzzaman.

A Bangladeshi expatriate from Malaysia has confirmed the matter to The Daily Samakal.

He said Khairuzzaman was arrested from his home in the Ampang area of Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday morning.

The expatriate said Khairuzzaman was expected to be deported from Malaysia soon.

M Khairuzzaman was accused of killing four national leaders in prison on November 3, 1975. He has been living in Malaysia as a refugee for more than a decade.

Meanwhile, Khairuzzaman's lawyer issued a legal notice to the Malaysian authorities demanding his immediate release.

Despite trying to contact in this regard, the statement of the responsible official of Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia could not be found.

However, a Foreign Ministry source said the arrest incident is true and details will be disclosed later.
