Enamul gets 8 years, Mizan 3 years imprisonment

A court has sentenced former ACC director Khandaker Enamul Basir to eight years in prison in two cases and ex-DIG Mizanur Rahman was sentenced to three years imprisonment respectively in a Tk 40 lakh bribery case.

Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court No. 4 pronounced the verdict on Wednesday in the presence of the accused.

On February 10, the same court fixed the date of pronouncement of the verdict.

According to the court, Basir was sentenced to eight years in jail for taking a Tk 40 lakh bribe and laundering the money, while Mizan was sentenced to three years in prison for delivering the money as a bribe.

Basir was also fined Tk 80 lakh, and if he does not pay, he would be sentenced to another six months in prison.

Syed Rezaur Rahman, lawyer of Basir, finished his argument in court and lawyer Ehsanul Haque Samaji argued in favour of Mizanur.
